Congressman Mcgovern inquired about His Eminence Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche’s purpose of visit and the well-being of His Holiness. Rinpoche provided an overview of his visit’s purpose and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the congressman. He also shared information about His Holiness’s recent 45-day visit to Ladakh, followed by his return to Dharamshala.
Congressman Mcgovern recounted his personal experiences visiting Lhasa and Dharamshala, highlighting the suspicion and monitoring by Chinese authorities, as well as the discreet expressions of concern by Tibetan residents. He emphasized that the Chinese government appears to fear His Holiness, a humble monk known for his compassion and truth. Rinpoche expounded on the historical context of Tibet and how Chinese policies are endangering the Tibetan culture and people. Which is why His Holiness introduced the Middle-Way Approach, a proposal aimed at mutually benefiting both Tibetans and the Chinese.
Rinpoche expressed deep appreciation for Congressman McGovern’s longstanding support and advocacy for Tibet in the capitol. On behalf of Tibetans inside and outside Tibet, he extended their gratitude for the Congressman’s unwavering commitment. Rinpoche emphasized the importance of continued support until Tibet achieves freedom.
Congressman McGovern assured his continued support, underscoring the moral imperative of advocating for Tibet. He encouraged Rinpoche to engage with Tibetans, providing spiritual teachings and preserving their cultural heritage in exile. The congressman acknowledged that, while he may not be as benevolent as His Holiness, he had gained valuable insights from the Tibetan community in Massachusetts. He stressed the necessity of holding the Chinese government accountable for its actions inside Tibet and emphasized the potential consequences for such actions.
